Getting married is one of the most important and exciting times in a couple’s life, if not THE most! That means that you want to make sure to pick a day that not only works best for you, but also for those who mean the most to you. Choosing the right wedding day for you is vital! This post is going to include a few helpful tips and things to consider when deciding what day of the week would work best for you and your wedding!

How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Day for You

MONDAY-WEDNESDAY:

Monday through Wednesday weddings work best for smaller weddings or weddings that the majority of the attendees live close by. These days are more uncommon for weddings, but Mondays are a little more common due to the number of holidays that fall on a Monday.

WINS:

  • CHEAPEST
  • More vendors available

Losses:

  • Some venues don’t offer services on these days
  • People having a difficulty attending due to work, traffic, and other obligations throughout the week
  • Almost impossible for out of town guests to attend because of how much they would need to take off of work (one day for rehearsal, one for the wedding, and one for travel)
  • Not very common day of the week for weddings
  • Guests will most likely leave early

THURSDAY:

Thursday weddings are becoming more common. When having a Thursday wedding, schedule it for later in the evening is best, that way all of your guests have time to arrive.

WINS:

  • Lower cost
  • You would have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to go on a honeymoon (therefore having to take fewer days off of work!)
  • More vendors available

Losses:

  • Some venues don’t offer services on Thursdays
  • Difficult for out of town guests to attend because of how much they would need to take off of work (Wednesday for rehearsal, Thursday for the wedding, and Friday for travel)
  • Guests will most likely leave early

FRIDAY:

Fridays are very common for weddings, which means your guests will expect it and plan accordingly.  When planning a Friday wedding, scheduling later in the evening would be beneficial because then your guests have time to arrive. This day seems to have the most positive benefits, but it’s up to you if the pros outweigh the cons or the cost!

WINS:

  • Most of the time, no one has to get up early to be somewhere on Saturday so they are less likely to leave early
  • A little less difficult for out of town guests (only have to take off Thursday and Friday)
  • You have Saturday and Sunday for your honeymoon
  • Your guests are less rushed to get back home to other obligations and have the weekend to relax and enjoy themselves
  • More vendors available

Losses:

  • More expensive
  • Friday traffic

SATURDAY:

Saturdays are the most common choice for weddings! They are also the most convenient choice for your guests but, also the most expensive for you. So, if you are willing to spend the money, Saturdays are the way to go!

WINS:

  • Most common, so guests expect it
  • Most convenient for guests (don’t have to worry about taking off, time to travel, and they have another day in the weekend so they can stay out)

Losses:

  • Most expensive
  • Honeymoon during the weekdays and having to take off work
  • Fewer vendors available

SUNDAY:

Sunday weddings are a good option as well. They are becoming more common as well. When scheduling a Sunday wedding, make sure you take into consideration church and things of that nature when choosing a time.

WINS:

  • Lower cost
  • People can travel in early and you can celebrate throughout the whole weekend leading up to your wedding day
  • No conflicts for guest attending, like work (don’t forget to consider church events, though)
  • More vendors available

Losses:

  • Out of town guests have to take Monday off of work
  • Guests likely to leave early due to work the following day

HOLIDAY WEDDINGS:

Holiday weddings are great and very common! Most of the tips mentioned above still apply, but some things do differ when it falls on a Holiday.

WINS:

  • It might be easier for out of town guests to take off because most of the time they have holidays off anyways
  • People may be less likely to leave early
  • Easier for guests to remember

Losses:

  • Usually more expensive, even if they fall on a weekday
  • Fewer vendors available
  • Guests might be busy/already have plans or traditions on holidays

When it really comes down to it, it doesn’t matter what day of the week you choose because it’s about the days that come after that date that really matter. More likely than not, the people who want to be there will find a way to be there. So, don’t stress about it. Make the decision with your spouse-to-be about what works best for YOU! Everyone else will fall into place accordingly!

If you’re getting married or already married, what day of the week did you choose and why? What were some of the WINS? What were some of the things you didn’t like?

  1. Our wedding is on a Saturday because the majority of our guests would be traveling out of town for the event. But, we did consider a Friday wedding date at point, too. These are all great points you made for the days.

  2. This is so helpful! I’m not married yet, but a lot of my friends have had Friday weddings – and a lot of family weddings I’ve been to have been Saturdays! So it’s always a mix – so many good points here!
