The best is yet to come. This is a phrase that has ran through my mind constantly all throughout the last couple of months of 2017. I had it painted on my graduation cap and it’s on my planner for 2018 (review coming soon, but you can click here for the white version of mine.) This phrase is also on a picture in our living room that I put up when we first moved in, and what’s funny is that I just liked the phrase. It was catchy, it looked cute, it was encouraging, and that was about the extent of it. As the year came to an end, it started to gain a new meaning for me.
This past year has been full of so much. It has had it’s hard times, due to so many changes and transitions in such a short amount of time. It has had it’s really good times, such as getting married, buying our first home, becoming a youth pastoring team of two, Brad getting a promotion, and I graduated college! There is so much I am thankful for and God has blessed me tremendously this past year. But when it comes to God, it doesn’t stop there.
I think a place where many of us, as Christians fail, is that we stop when things are going well. We get in the mindset that God can only do what makes sense or what we can comprehend. We stop chasing after what God has for us when things get comfortable. We lose our wonder of God and what He is capable of. I can easily say that this year has been THE best year of my life. I married my best friend, I graduated college, I became a pastor’s wife, and we bought a house. Those things are awesome. BUT I serve a BIG, powerful, awesome, and miracle working God. That means that God has more.
The reason why the phrase the best is yet to come is going to be my motto for this year is because I am believing God for bigger and better things this year. I believe that God can do even more in my life personally, my marriage, our ministry, our family, and now, my job search. This year was great, but next year can, and will, be greater. How would your life look different if you approached this year with the mindset that God will do more than the last? Or that your best days aren’t behind you, but ahead?
Now, some of you may be reading this and reminded of how horrible this year was or how difficult it might have been. First, I want to say that I am so sorry that your year wasn’t the best, but the best is yet to come for you too. God wants to outdo himself in your life. He wants to remind you of how much good He can do for you. He wants to show you that He is good to you. He wants to bring back your wonder and awe. He want’s to restore your faith and encourage you this year. “My sweet son or daughter, the best only yet to come. Stop looking at the days behind because they are already gone. Look ahead because I have so much planned that you could never even imagine.”
Regardless of if you had a good year or a bad, God is still God. We all have things we could improve on and things we excel at, things we wish happened differently and things we wouldn’t change, things we stopped pursuing and things we kept chasing. C.S. Lewis once said, “I am sure God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait.” This reigns so true in my life. When you wait with a purpose, not with complaints or frustration, worry or doubt, but with faith, God always shows up and shows out. Remember that going into this year as you reflect back on the last and plan for 2018. If you’ve been waiting for a breakthrough, it’s coming. If you’ve been feeling discouraged, take courage my friend because God has something BIG in store. Whatever you’re facing, there is a purpose behind your waiting, but THE. BEST. IS. YET. TO. COME.
What is that dream that you stopped chasing because maybe you thought you already reached it? What’s that calling that you feel on your life but don’t know if you’ll ever really get there? What is that one area of your life you feel stuck in? What part of your life leaves you feeling like you’ll never be enough? What is one thing you’ve always wanted to do but never really tried? What area of your life do you need God’s best to show up? God wants to show off and show out in your life. He wants to remind you that He placed those dreams, wants, desires, and needs on your life before you even knew them yourself. He wants to prove himself to be even better and greater than last year! But it starts with you, and me, taking that step of faith to trust, wait patiently, and seek Him. Seek Him all throughout the year, in the midst of chaos, peace, and all that’s in-between.
I would love to hear your motto for the year! Share it in the comments and don’t forget to add the “why” behind it and let’s dream BIG together and chase after the best is yet to come in 2018!
