Meet My People: Mandey Puckett

Incase you’re new here, or just forgot, I launched a series called Meet My People Mondays. Every other Monday you will get to hear from one of my closest friends. They will share about themselves, me, and our friendship. I truly believe there is no better way to know me than to know the people around me. They are going to be just as real and as honest as I am. I want you guys to get to know the people I love, while also getting to see me from one of my friend’s point of view.

Meet My People Mondays: Mandey Puckett

Mandey Puckett is someone who has impacted my life in a way that I will never have words to describe or say thank you enough. She stood by through every season of my life, loved me even when she didn’t want to, lead me even when I wouldn’t listen, and never ever gave up on me. She has been a constant in every storm of my life, from loss, heartbreak, confusion, broken home life, navigating through my calling, parent’s divorce, and so much more. The coolest part has been seeing our relationship change over time. First, I was just a youth student and she was my pastor. Then, she became my mentor as I entered into college. A few years later, she started becoming more of a friend. Now, she is my sister-in-law!! God writes the best stories and our story is living proof of that. Mandey is one of my role models! She is one of the strongest, God-fearing women I have ever met. It’s been a unique journey seeing your role model become family, seeing all the hidden treasures and hurts that I wouldn’t have been able to see before. It’s been such a blessing getting to see the realness of who Mandey is and still hoping to be half the woman she is when I’m her age. Mandey and Tim’s marriage is one that I look up and I could go on and on about why, but I’ll let you hear from Mandey yourself. Mandey, thanks for being my pastor, friend, Matron of Honor, and sister, you’re one of my greatest treasures!

The way this will work is…I asked her a series of questions, some about her and some about me, and I copied them word for word into this document. All of my input, if any, will be italicized and in parentheses. This is how it will be for each person. So, let’s dive in:

How old are you? If you MUST know…30. The big 3-0. I don’t say it out loud unless I have to. 🙂

Married? YES, almost 10 years!

Pets? Yes, Maximus and Oakley

Kids? Two girls, Presleah (3) and Paityn (9 months)

Describe yourself in 5 words?

Compassionate, strong, servant, caring, and relatable.

What is a fun fact about you?

I was on the girls wrestling team my Sophomore year in high school! (I knew there was a reason I was a little scared of you haha)

What are you reading right now?

Two books by Lysa Tuerkerst: Uninvited and Made to Crave.

What is something God’s been speaking to you right now?

My word for this year is to ENJOY. Enjoy every season and phase of life we are in right now. Way easier said than done, but I’m working on it. (I need to get better at this!)

What was the best thing that happened to you this past year?

The birth of my second baby girl…she has been such a joy and treasure. (And gaining another sister lol…JK friends!)

What’s your favorite animal? And why?

Baby goat…because you can’t help but smile, laugh, and be happy when you see them playing! I WILL have one someday!

What do you do for a living?

Wife, mom, youth pastors wife, budget planner, personal banker, chauffeur, housekeeper, laundry doer, just to name a few! (I LOVE THIS ANSWER SO MUCH! Mandey really does do the most!)

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Loving life, serving Jesus and the local church, possibly back in the work force teaching? Who knows?!

What was the best year of your life? And why?

So very hard to say. God has been so good to me. It’s hard to choose just one. I feel like I should say the year I became a mom but I’m not going to. Becoming a mom was the greatest gift but it has also been a challenging journey! So I am going to say probably a year or two after I married my best friend. We just had a season there doing ministry together (AND LOVING IT) and enjoying our new marriage. Life was FUN!

What is your favorite way to pass the time?

I love to craft but don’t have much time to do it anymore. So I would have to say catching up on my favorite TV shows.

What is your personality type?

I am not sure what kind of specifics you are looking for, but it’s definitely a strong one. That Heathcock gene, though! 😉 (I can agree that the Heathcock gene is a STRONG one hahaha)

What is your love language?

Words of Affirmation/Acts of Service

What are your strengths?

I feel things very deeply and that makes me passionate!

What are your weaknesses?

I can get overwhelmed or frustrated very quickly.

Who is your hero/role model?

I have a lot of people I look (or have looked) up to while trying to grow as a wife, mom, and follower of Jesus but the single biggest hero in my life is my hubby. He really is the best representation of Jesus I know here on this earth. (I couldn’t agree more. Tim is actually my husband, Brad’s, role model/hero as well! He’s a rare breed for sure!)

What is your dream job?

Worship leader who travels!

What is the best advice you’ve ever given/heard?

The days are long but the years are short.

What is your favorite bible verse? And why?

That’s a tough one. SO many in my mind, but I think I will go with Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” I think this is my favorite because we have been through A LOT in our short marriage and God has been there through it ALL. Hard financial times, infertility, miscarriage, losing a job, and so much more, but He has been there through it all. He brought good through EVERY SINGLE STORM. And He will continue to do so as long as I keep my eyes on Him. (I’m not crying…you’re crying! SO powerful!)

How did you meet Courtney?

She was a part of our youth group in Wichita Falls, TX…she was only 12!

What was your first impression of her?

She was so cute and LOUD. Very loud. 😉 (Has anyone else noticed a trend on this question…?)

What’s your favorite thing about Courtney?

Her passion for ministry and he compassion for hurting people!

How has Courtney impacted your life?

She has helped me push through when ministry gets hard. She is an example of what can happen when you continue to love on, invest in, and pray for teenagers. (I was a hanfull…that’s for sure!)

If you could describe Courtney in one word, what would it be?

Which blog post has been your favorite so far? And why?

Can I just be real? I’ve only read a few. My life is crazy, y’all. But I will say that I am proud of her for doing this blog. She is a talented writer fo sho!

Anything else you would like to say about yourself or Courtney:

The fact that she went from this crazy, tiny little preteen to my sister-in-law is INSANE. God is so cool. I would’ve never guessed that was what He had in store. I am still getting used to it! Lol.

Mandey is amazing! You can follow her on Facebook (and sometimes Instagram) for silly videos of her girls, bragging posts on her hubby, and more on their journey in MICHIGAN as Youth Pastors at Brightmoore Church!
